ARLINGTON, Texas – Antonio Margarito was determined to make it to the end of his fight with Manny Pacquiao on Saturday no matter what, and he wound up paying a severe price as a result.

Margarito will have surgery on Tuesday at Dallas Methodist Hospital to repair a fractured right eye socket, said promoter Bob Arum. Arum explained the surgery can’t be performed until the swelling on the eye has reduced.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Antonio Margarito entered the ring standing five inches taller and weighing 17 pounds more than Manny Pacquiao.

By the ninth round, Margarito’s right eye had been nearly closed. His nose was bent. The rest of his face was bloodied and bruised. So pronounced was the destruction that Pacquiao kept turning to the referee and begging him to stop the fight, to end his massacre of this bigger, stronger man.

“Look at his eyes,” Pacquiao said he pleaded to the referee. “Look at his cuts.”

The camps of Pacquiao and Margarito swapped charges shortly before their fight. According to ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo, Margarito’s trainer Robert Garcia complained about Pacquiao’s hand wraps. They asked Pacquiao’s camp to have the Filipino’s hands re-wrapped.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Manny Pacquiao proved beyond a doubt Saturday night what most people believed coming into his super welterweight championship fight against Antonio Margarito – that size doesn't matter as much as speed and quickness. And heart.

 

Pacquiao, 17 pounds lighter than Margarito at the opening bell, had too much of everything for Margarito and won going awayat Cowboys Stadium before a raucous crowd of 41,734 and extended his record to world championships in eight different weight divisions. Nobody else has more than six.

MANILA, Philippines — Excitement filled the air of the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, as the main event fronted by Manny Pacquiao against Antonio Margarito commenced on Saturday (Sunday, in Manila).

The sports ground had 70,000-75,000 crowd in attendance.

The fans roared loud as the Fighter of the Decade Pacquiao entered the stadium second.

He wore a white robe with gold trim, and a headband. The 7-division champion also had the MP emblem on his back.

With rock music from the movie “Karate Kid” playing, he graced his fans with all smiles.

Meanwhile, Margarito made his entrance through the blaring Mexican music. He wore a black and red robe, and had the Mexican flag in his hood.

The boxer raised his gloves to acknowledge the crowd.

Mommy Dionesia passes out after son's victory

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Dionesia Pacquiao, mother of boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, lost consciousness during the Pacquiao-Margarito bout in Dallas, Texas on Saturday (Sunday Philippine time).

She has regained consciousness, radio dzMM reported.

Celebrity doctor Vicki Belo also confirmed that Manny's mom is now conscious.

"Mommy d awake . Just feeling weak . Kept here in the hospital for more tests. Thanks for prayers," Belo tweeted.

Reports of Dionesia's condition first broken by Belo, in her Twitter account twitter.com/vicki_belo.

In one tweet, Belo said "Mommy diönisia is unconscious. . I don t know if its cuz she prayed too much or she s having an attack," just minutes after the fight ended.

A few minutes later, Belo tweted, "She has not regained consciousness. Please pray for mommy d."

Belo, along with her daughter Cristalle, was among those in the front row of the fight, held at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

This is the first time Dionesia Pacquiao has watched Manny's fight.

Giving away both pounds and inches, boxing’s little superstar turned Antonio Margarito into a bloody and nearly blind fighter with a dizzying array of punches Saturday night in a lopsided decision victory that wasn’t close from the opening rounds on.

In a spectacular performance before a delighted crowd of 41,734 at Cowboys Stadium, Pacquiao cemented his claim to being the best fighter in the world by dominating the bigger but slower Margarito almost from the opening bell. Pacquiao won round after round, opening a cut on Margarito’s cheek, closing his right eye, and turning his face into a bloody mess.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Manny Pacquiao was once again masterful, beating Antonio Margarito so frightfully that Margarito’s face looked as it had been pounded repeatedly by a club.

Pacquiao won a unanimous one-sided decision in a blowout from the opening seconds of the fight to capture the World Boxing Council super welterweight title before 41,734 in-awe fans at Cowboys Stadium.

Pacquiao’s title belt, coming against an opponent who had a 17-pound weight advantage when the bell rang, 165-148, was the eighth in his illustrious career. Pacquiao has won world titles at 112, 122, 126, 130, 135, 140, 147 and now 154 pounds.

Judges Jurgen Langos had it 120-109, Glen Crocker had it 118-110 and Oren Schellenberger had it 119-109 for Pacquiao. Yahoo! Sports scored it 120-107 for Pacquiao, giving Pacquiao a 10-8 edge in the 10th round when he dominated tremendously.

Margarito, fighting for the first time in the U.S. since Jan. 24, 2009, when he was caught with an illegal knuckle pad in his gloves before a loss to Shane Mosley, was never in the fight. Pacquiao’s speed was blinding and was the difference in the fight.
