MANILA, Philippines – "Fighter of the Decade" Manny Pacquiao hammered a unanimous decision against "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight title, his 8th world crown, on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
The triumphant Filipino superstar raised his hand in victory to the delight of thousands of his supporters who watched the bout live at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The scores were 120-108, 118-110 and 119-109 in favor of the Sarangani Province congressman.
Aside from winning the WBC super welterweight crown over Margarito, Pacquiao also held 7 world titles in 7 weight classes:
· WBC flyweight title
· International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior bantamweight title
· Linear featherweight title
· WBC junior lightweight title
· WBC lightweight title
· International Boxing Organization (IBO) junior welterweight title
· World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title
Pacquiao now has of 52 wins (with 38 KOs), 3 losses and 2 draws.
His opponent Margarito, meanwhile, fell to 38 wins (with 27 KOs) and 7 losses.
In fighting Pacquiao, the former world champion "Tijuana Tornado" sought to redeem his image after getting involved in a tampered hand wraps controversy in January 2009.
