The “Fighter of the Decade” and reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight king bared this in a teleconference with boxing scribes on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
“To all the fans, there's nothing to worry about me,” said Pacquiao, as he dispelled rumors about not being focused on his training for the fight.
“I'm [more] worried how we can give a good fight to the people,” said the Filipino boxing superstar.
Proof of this is his willingness to go toe-to-toe with the taller Margarito, who enjoys a 5-inch height advantage over the “diminutive” Pacquiao.
The Mexican stands 5’11” while the Filipino champion is 5’6”. The disparity in height translates to a 6-inch reach advantage for Margarito.
Pacquiao also agreed to fight the Mexican despite the latter’s tarnished reputation.
In January 2009, Margarito was caught wearing tampered hand wraps before his bout with Shane Mosley. This led to his suspension from boxing in the US.
More than a year later, he was able to secure a license to fight in the State of Texas.
“For me, I just concentrate on the fight,” said Margarito. “Everything is in the past.”
The Mexican was not able to fight for almost 2 years save for his 10-round super welterweight bout against Roberto Garcia (not related to his trainer Robert Garcia) in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Margarito said he is excited about getting back in action.
“I can't wait till November 13,” said Margarito. “It's a superfight and I can't wait to be in the ring.” -- With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
