Margarito Madness is coming to Fort Worth.
Three-time welterweight champion Antonio “The Tijuana Tornado” Margarito of Mexico, who faces boxing's No. 1 pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao in a World Super
Welterweight Championship fight at Cowboys Stadium on Nov. 13, will be in Fort Worth Sunday for a public workout at 3 p.m. at LaGran Plaza Mall. The event is free.
Margarito (38-6, 27 KOs) will be training in a boxing ring setup on center stage in the middle of the mall, located on the corner of Interstate-35 South and Seminary Drive. There will be an autograph session after the workout. Dallas’ Roberto Marroquin, who’ll fight on the undercard, will have a workout and autograph session at 2 p.m. followed by Margarito.
Sunday’s visit to Fort Worth will be one of two public appearances for Margarito on the same day. At 1 p.m., he’s scheduled to visit the Tamale Festival in Dallas before traveling to Fort Worth.
Boxing promoter Bob Arum said Wednesday that ticket sales for the Pacquiao/Margarito fight are ahead of the pace compared to Pacquiao’s fight in March, which drew 51,000 fans to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington
Arum said he expects to top the 60,000 mark for the title bout. The fight is also available on HBO’s pay-per-view beginning at 8 p.m.
Arum said the World Series run by the Texas Rangers hasn’t slowed ticket sales, but could actually be a boon because it raised the level of sports awareness in the market. Arum admitted he’d hoped the Dallas Cowboys (1-6) would have a better record.
Remaining tickets to Pacquiao vs. Margarito are priced at $700, $500, $300, $200, $100, and $50, and can be purchased in-person at the Cowboys Stadium ticket office in Arlington, or by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com.
