So who’s afraid of typhoon Juan? Certainly not pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.
Unmindful of the threat from a super typhoon, the 31-year-old Pacquiao pushed through with his regular morning roadwork, braving the cold, early rain Monday morning with a run around Burnham Park here.
Braving the stormy weather, Pacquiao jogged for close to two hours, and then capped his road ork with his usual stretching exercises to the amazement of the few people left n the park.
“Rain or shine, the training will push through," said Pacquiao.
Later in the afternoon, the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter did his regular two-hour workout in the presence of foreign and local journalists who attended the media day event organized by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum at the Shape Up gym inside the Cooyesan Hotel.
As rain and wind raged outside, Pacquiao was all busy battering the mitts with trainer Freddie Roach for eight rounds.
By the end of the day's training, Pacquiao had logged a total of 30 rounds of shadowboxing, working on the speedball, and double-end and abdominal exercises.
The seven-time world champion said the last two weeks of training prior to his Nov. 13 title bout with Antonio Margarito will be devoted to something else.
“We will focus on adding weight and adding muscles in the last two weeks of training," said Pacquiao.
He’s scheduled to spar on Tuesday before he packs his bags to return to Manila on Wednesday. - RCJ/KY, GMANews.TV
